Seminar Series
Quarterly Educational Seminar Series - 7 Things to Know About Same Sex Marriage
Marriage creates financial and legal complexities for same sex partners. Although many people think that same sex couples who marry are now on equal footing with opposite sex couples, in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Same sex marriage creates financial and legal challenges that every same sex couple should be aware of.
As part of Grubman Financial's ongoing commitment to community education, we are holding a seminar on 7 Things to Know about Same Sex Marriage on Tuesday, September 23rd at 7:00 PM*.
Join us for an interactive discussion of the issues, and of the actions you should consider taking.
We'll discuss marriage versus a Registered Domestic Partnership, tax considerations, property ownership, unintended gifting, adoption, dissolution, and financial differences between same sex marriage and opposite sex marriage.
We address these questions and more:
- If you are already registered as domestic partners, can you get married now?
- If you have gotten married in Canada, Massachusetts, or elsewhere, should you re-marry in California?
- What will happen if you marry now, and Proposition 8 passes?
- Is it better to marry now, or wait until after the vote on Prop 8?
- How does the Federal Defense of Marriage Act affect marriage in California?
Please join us for 7 Things to Know about Same Sex Marriage on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at our office from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Dinner will be provided.
Everyone is welcome.
Please bring your friends, family or other contacts if you think they would be interested in this seminar and would benefit from our services. If you are not able to attend, but know someone who might benefit, let us know and we'll extend an invitation to them.
